The Top 3 Essentials I Received at My Baby Shower

Every woman who is expecting a child dreams of how her baby shower will be. She often wonders which useful gifts she will get for her little one. When time came for my shower, I know I was excited to see what new things I would be receiving for my son. I expected the traditional items, such as clothes and bibs, but the items that I wasn't expecting were the ones I ended up needing the most. These gifts turned out to be the top 3 essential items that I used frequently for my little guy.

Portable Baby Bed

A family friend gave me a portable baby bed, known as a sleeper. Even though I had both a bassinet and crib for my baby to sleep in, he most often fell asleep in my arms. When I would try to move him, 99% of the time it would wake him up to do so. With the sleeper, my son was able to stay next to me and sleep better than he ever had in the crib. It was also nice that it came with a nightlight built in. That way, I could keep the light on and easily see him when he awoke to be fed or changed.

Changing Table/Playpen Combo

I was also given a changing table/playpen combo by my grandma. It came with an extra component that allowed the "bed" to be raised and a changing table to be added. I left the playpen in my living room where my son could easily take a nap in the bed and be moved to the changing table when he needed a new diaper. The playpen also included a storage area where I could keep diapers and wipes.

Changing Pad Kit

My dad bought me a changing pad kit that I used for the entire first year. Instead of just the small changing pad that comes with most diaper bags, this kit had the pad with an attached storage compartment. I could easily keep my son's diapers and wipes together. If I was going somewhere for only a short time, I could grab the case to take along with me, instead of the entire bag.

Although there were many great gifts that I got from my baby shower, these 3 items turned out to be the most essential. For anyone who will be attending a baby shower and is looking for a great gift to get the mommy-to-be, I would recommend one of these items. She is sure to love them as much as I did.
